Olive oil and chocolate: find out how to combine them for an eggstraordinary Easter

Easter and chocolate go hand in hand as, for example, it can be Christmas and panettone or Ferragosto and barbecue… one does not exist without the other; or rather, these two elements combined together make the celebrations of that specific anniversary complete.

These are festivities that must be celebrated with a lot of taste and therefore, in the case of Easter desserts, green light are all for chocolate Easter doves, pastiera, casatiello and cassata with ricotta and chocolate chips, chocolate salami and the evergreen chocolate Easter egg, which can be made of dark, milk or white chocolate.
The sweet match with chocolate can easily lead to a combination, yes more risky, but certainly a lot more successful: extra virgin olive oil and chocolate.

For those who have been following our Bonamini blog since the very beginning, you know very well what we are about to reveal.. but for you new readers however, this could be a discovery!
The combination of olive oil-sweets-chocolate is a classic, a tradition, indeed the famous green gold can easily replace butter in the preparation of your desserts, even in Easter desserts. It gives softness, smoothness, better digestion and an incomparable sense of lightness!

How to combine Bonamini olive oil with chocolate desserts

The enveloping warmth that chocolate gives combined with the fruity notes of extra virgin olive oil offers a taste experience from which there is no turning back. A culinary journey to discover the infinite paths that can be taken if you decide to introduce the use of extra virgin olive oil in everyday cooking.

In this specific case, the chocolate recalls the taste of some typical varieties of our production area and therefore, with the combination of oil and chocolate, lovers of these two single elements will be able to enthusiastically savor many different examples of the combinations.

We could start with the timeless chocolate cake, with which we decided to play easy with an olive oil with delicate and well balanced taste like our San Felice Bonamini.

Or you could venture a soufflé with hot chocolate with which in combination we can only see an extra virgin olive oil with aromatic, fresh and fruity scents such as our Vert De Vertes extra virgin olive oil.

But we are talking about Easter and the Easter dessert that is certainly best known to everyone is the Easter dove.
Let us now go back to the Lombard age when after the siege of the city of Pavia, which ended just before the Easter period, the enemy king was offered a sweet bread in the shape of a dove as a sign of peace.

Obviously, over the years, the original recipe with almond icing and granulated sugar has undergone numerous changes and today the “Colomba di Pasqua” is also made in combination with previously unthinkable products such as pistachio, caramel, liqueur as limoncino or arancello up to that with olive oil and chocolate.

In our case, we have decided to use an olive oil that tastes just like “home”, tradition, family.
In fact, Campo di Casa is exactly the extra virgin olive oil we suggest for preparing this chocolate Easter cake.

Due to its originality and its surprising taste, it turned out to be the most appropriate combination of the case, creating harmony between all its components and the ingredients necessary for the creation of the Easter dove.

In the end, whether we’re talking about chocolate Easter eggs, chocolate salami or Easter dove with chocolate chips, little changes… what makes the real difference is the audacity with which we let ourselves go and try new and unusual combinations. The combination of extra virgin olive oil and chocolate is able to create and amaze at the same time; various new and original versions of the typical Easter sweets which, with the addition of always different and unique flavors and aromas, will be able to bring to the table a much more enriched gustatory baggage, more than just the typical  and holy sense of tradition.
