Let’s start from the beginning… what is organic olive oil exactly?

It is considered organic an olive oil which was made only using natural substances and mechanical processes; and while talking about extra virgin olive oil and our morals of olive oil makers, it is important preserving the safety of that precious environment which gives us our beloved green gold. While avoiding the use of chemical fertilizer, weedkillers or pesticides, we are also avoiding the poisoning and the pollution of the ground, the waters and all the flora and fauna surrounding us. When we decide to use organic raw materials while making our organic oil, we are contributing to do what’s necessary to safeguard the ecosystems and garantee a sustainable future to our planet.

Concretely here at Frantoio Bonamini, in order to make organic extravirgin olive oil, the olives have to come from olive trees which were cultivated without the use of any pesticide or chemical products. For example us of Bonamini, we only spray our organic olive trees with a “wood distillate”, that is a plant invigorator, enhancer of plant defense, which stimulates rooting and protects the plant from diseases and pathogens.

But it’s also important to mention that organic olives have to be pressed in a olive farm which has the certification of organic production and that is regularly inspecy by the control body of the Ministry of Agricultural Policies and by the organic certification body.

From the field to the olive oil mill where the making of organic evo oil requires a particular and very careful approach to every single step of the production; a behavior that us from Frantoio Bonamini has always kept, either it was organic olive oil or the classic extra virgin. Freshly picked olives are transportated to the olive oil mill in the less time possible and they are pressed following the rules of the “cold press” and that’s how we prevent the risks that high temperatures could bring such us altering the taste, the proprieties and the quality of organic extra virgin oil. Also the use of washed and cleaned machines are a must required while making organic oil; it’s extremely important to avoid all the contaminations that could occur in a possible contact between organic olive oil and extra virgin oil and this also refers to the storage part. Organic extravirgin olive oil is kept in stainless stell tanks and under nitrogen to prevent the oxidation and way before starting to bottling and selling that specif olive oil, it is subjected to laboratory analyzes which certify the actual veracity of the organic label affixed to the bottle.

Thanks to the Pieralisi continuous cycle machinery, the transition to 4.0 technology and the certification obtained over the years, our Bonamini oil mill can also be considered in all respects a certified organic olive oil mill. Controlled by the Soil and Health Control Body IT-BIO-006 Authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture Mipaaf, operator code no. E1464, our operations are certified with the wording “from Organic Agriculture” Regulation (EC) 2092/91 subsequently replaced by EC Reg. 834/07 and at national level with the Ministerial Decree. 889/08 18354/09.
